Ryan M. Forbes, ASA – Managing Director

Ryan M. Forbes is the Managing Director of Equinox Advisory Group, LLC. Mr. Forbes has more than eight years of professional experience working in the financial advisory industry.  Mr. Forbes experience includes valuing middle-market companies for a variety of purposes including, but not limited to, estate and gift tax, management planning, mergers & acquisitions, financial reporting, and exit planning.

Mr. Forbes holds a bachelor of science degree in business administration with concentrations in both finance and economics from Notre Dame de Namur University, where he graduated magna cum laude, a certificate in finance from the University of California at Los Angeles, where he graduated summa cum laude, and a master of science degree in finance from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University at Bloomington, where he graduated summa cum laude.

In addition, Mr. Forbes holds the professional valuation designation of Accredited Senior Appraiser ("ASA") with a concentration in business valuation from the American Society of Appraisers as well as the Certified Merger & Acquisition Advisor ("CM&AA") designation from the Alliance of Merger & Acquisition Advisors.

David J. Sabourin, CFA – Director

David Sabourin is a Director at Equinox Advisory Group, LLC. Mr. Sabourin has 25 years of experience as a financial analyst. Mr. Sabourin has appraised hundreds of businesses in a wide array of industries, including: real estate, food and agriculture, public utilities, manufacturing, retail, and technology.

Mr. Sabourin earned a Bachelor of Science in Commerce for finance at Santa Clara University. Mr. Sabourin holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a member of the Institute of Business Appraisers and the CFA Society of Los Angeles.

Prior to joining Equinox Advisory Group, LLC, Mr. Sabourin was a Senior Manager at the business valuation firm of Higgins, Marcus & Lovett, Inc., which he joined in 1999. Prior to that he was an Equity Analyst and Assistant Vice President at The TCW Group, Inc., an investment management company.

John K. Paglia, Ph.D. - Advisor

Dr. Paglia, a former Julian Virtue and Denney Professorship recipient, is an associate professor of finance at the Graziadio School of Business and Management at Pepperdine University and directs the Pepperdine Private Capital Markets Project.

Since 2007, his work on the Pepperdine Private Capital Markets Project-- the first simultaneous, comprehensive, and on-going investigation of the major private capital market segments—which includes cost of capital studies, economic forecasts, and a new quarterly private capital access (PCA) index, has resulted in over 30,000 report downloads in more than 75 countries and has earned him the 2011 "George Award," which is given to the one faculty member who best leverages connections with the business community to make a difference in the classroom. He was also awarded the inaugural “Tom Hopkins Award for Excellence in M&A” in 2011 by the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG) and the “Third Annual Middle Market Thought Leader Award” in 2012 by Grant Thornton and The Alliance for Mergers & Acquisitions Advisors (AM&AA) for his groundbreaking research on the private capital markets.

He is a frequent speaker on the topics of privately-held company cost of capital, valuation, demand for and access to capital, and financing and deal trends at valuation and M&A conferences pertaining to small businesses and middle market companies.

Dr. Paglia’s research has been covered in The Wall Street Journal, CNBC, USA Today, Businessweek, TIME, The Washington Post, Bloomberg, Reuters, Inc., Forbes, Entrepreneur, MSNBC, ABC News, Huffington Post, Crains New York, The Los Angeles Times, and The New York Times, among others. Dr. Paglia holds a Ph.D. in finance, an MBA, a B.S. in finance, and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Charterholder.

Dubos J. Masson, Ph.D. - Advisor

D.J. Masson is President of The Resource Alliance, a training and consulting firm specializing in treasury management, international finance, business forecasting, asset management and risk management.  Over the past 25 years, Dr. Masson has been providing business and financial consulting and training services to a wide variety of corporations, utilities, financial institutions, and not-for-profit organizations in the U.S., Canada, and abroad.

Dr. Masson is currently serving as an Associate Clinical Professor of Finance at Indiana University’s Kelly School of Business and is a frequent conference speaker and author in a variety of financial and treasury management areas.  Dr. Masson’s areas of specialty include: treasury management, working capital management, global cash management, risk management, asset management and corporate valuation.  Dr. Masson is also an instructor and curriculum developer for the Association for Financial Professionals (AFP), the Association of Corporate Treasurers (ACT) in the U.K and Citibank’s Global Transactions Services unit.  Dr. Masson is also author/editor of the 1st and 3rd editions of AFP’s Essentials of Treasury Management.

Dr. Masson has extensive experience in developing curriculum for a wide range of teaching and training environments, both residential and on-line.  Dr. Masson has developed classes and taught at all levels of university education, including: undergraduate, MBA, Executive MBA, not-for-credit and custom-designed courses.  Dr. Masson also has worked with professional associations to develop curriculum, training materials and certification programs in the areas of Treasury Management, Credit Management, Global Cash Management, Financial Forecasting, Commercial Banking and Risk Management.  Finally, he has over 20 years of experience in developing training and education programs for commercial banks, ranging from small regional institutions to large global financial institutions such as Citibank, JPM Chase, HSBC and Royal Bank of Canada.

Dr. Masson’s educational background includes a B.A. in business from the University of New Orleans and an MBA and Ph.D. in Finance from Indiana University.  Dr. Masson earned his Certified Cash Manager (CCM) credential in 1988, attaining permanent status in 1995 and transitioning to the Certified Treasury Professional (CTP) credential in 2003.  Dr. Masson also holds the Cert ICM, an international cash management certification from the Association of Corporate Treasurers (ACT) in the UK.

Michael D. Cohen, CPA, CFE, ABV – Advisor

Michael Cohen specializes in Forensic Accounting, Business Valuation, and Litigation Support. Mr. Cohen has over 35 years of public accounting and consulting experience with business values, tax consequences, financing, and funds-flow analysis for mergers, acquisitions, and sales. Mr. Cohen has substantial experience as a Certified Fraud Examiner in forensic accounting including fraud investigation, loss of income, and analysis of business contracts and of realty transactions. Mr. Cohen is accredited in Business Valuation. Mr. Cohen has qualified as an expert witness in California and federal courts.

Mr. Cohen was recognized as a “Distinguished Alumnus” by California State University, Fullerton, listed in Who’s Who in Business and Finance and Who’s Who in the West, received a commendation from the City of Brea for outstanding community service, and received the Brea Chamber of Commerce’s Person of the Year award.

Mr. Cohen received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from California State University, Fullerton in 1973.
